Use Your Voice (vlogging like a boss)

Well, I did it! I did my very first video vlog. I really wanted to take on this challenge because I like to think of this blog as a personal wine or coffee date with friends. I wanted to share my voice and for you to see more of the Ā “real life” me.

Like I imagined, it was terribly awkward talking to myself on my webcam and I sound VERY serious. I managed to only have one mind blank, so laugh your way through that one. YouTube will always get the last laugh and pick the worst screenshot possible to use. But, I did it, and it really wasn’t as bad as it seemed after I started talking.

I decided to vlog about the power of using our own personal voices. If you don’t show respect and confidence in yourself and your own thoughts, why would should anyone else? Check it out and then enter to win an inspirational bracelet below!

I wear my “Be The Change” bangle from The Shine Project: Threads to remind me that I am in control of my own story, that I hold the power to make the changes I want to see in my world. I love Threads (they help at risk youths attain their goals of going to college and establishing careers and being who they want to be!) so much that I decided to giveaway one of their “Be The Change” bangles to one of you!

  • Girl. I’m so effing proud of you right now. This vlog almost brought me to tears. You’re so inspiring and amazing and YOU SHOULD DO THIS MORE. I love your voice, and you had so much to say! Well done, have a great weekend. I’m so proud of you.

    • kwalshmac

Thank you so much for your support! It helps SO SO much. This is something I never thought I’d EVER do. I’m surprised at how much I really like doing the vlog once I got started. I have some other ideas of my sleeve for future vlogs!

  • GET IT GIRL! Inspiring. I’m working on a lot of changes, the biggest one being trying to be brave more often.

    • kwalshmac

Oh thank you! I appreciate your support so much! This was SO terrifying to do. Being brave takes a lot, but the rewards are amazing! You can do it!!

  • I love seeing the blogs I follow do vlogs because it’s so fun to actually see them in more than just still photos! šŸ™‚

    • kwalshmac

Thanks Amanda, I think it’s really fun too, you really get a new look into who they “really” are!

  • Pat (mom)

Great job speaking and sharing your thoughts. I’m so proud of you.

    • kwalshmac

Thank you, gotta keep up the practice of sharing thoughts to more people!

  • YOU ARE ADORABLE. Not that I didn’t know that about you before. Can we have coffee dates on the regular and you can tell me inspiring and beautiful things like Amber, just use your voice already!?! This is such a big part of my B.R.A.V.E. year… Being bold in what I’ve got going on in my head because it’s promising and beautiful simply because it’s mine. šŸ™‚

    You are a gem.

    • kwalshmac

Oh thank you! Your support means everything to me. And YES to coffee dates (or martini please?!) we can both remind each other that we are stronger than we think and that brave little soul in us is just itching to get out!! Think of what we could conquer!

  • I’m so grateful to have stumbled upon your blog. What a fantastic vlog topic. PS. Your voice is beautiful šŸ™‚ Use it more often!

    • kwalshmac

oh thank you! I really hope to continue to be more brave and to not run and hide from my own voice! Thank you so much for stopping by šŸ™‚

  • sue mikolajczyk

From a shy little girl to a self-confident young woman! I was your teacher….now you are my teacher! What a great message!

    • kwalshmac

Sue, you are too sweet! Thank you! I think we can all be a little bit bolder and stronger at times. I know I like to get that reminder! šŸ™‚

  • I love this! I have the same fear as you – I cannot stand my voice, it even pains me to listen to my answering machine. Hopefully one day I’ll have the courage to do a vlog. Have you ever read the poem “Our Deepest Fear” by Marianne Williamson? It’s one of my faves for when I need a little extra encouragement. You have a great voice, keep the vlogs comin!

    • kwalshmac

Thank you, that means a lot to me! And my advice for doing a vlog? Just do it! Seriously, I contemplated and worried about it for awhile and then finally just leaped. I’ll have to check out that poem, I love anything inspirational and encouraging. Now, go plan a vlog šŸ™‚

  • Jennifer

The change I’d like to make in my personal life I would like to spend less time worrying about work, and use my down time doing stuff with my son, and working out.
Iā€™m so glad to have stumbled upon your blog.

    • kwalshmac

Thanks Jennifer! I too struggle with worrying and time management. In hindsight I waste SO much time fretting and worrying rather than being productive. In the end it makes me MORE anxious!

  • I LOVE this vlog! Congrats on getting your first one out there – and being SO inspirational!! I want to focus on being more put together – emotionally, mentally and physically! That is the change I am making because I’ve found when I put more effort into being put together instead of letting myself be a hot mess, I am happier.

    • kwalshmac

Thank you SO much, that means a lot to me because this was a challenge and I hope to help similar women! And I agree, having the foundation to be put together and organized in life just makes things so much easier and less of a chance to get overwhelmed and behind. Believe me, I need to work on that too!

  • Lea

Great post! I’d like to try to be more present in the moment as a mom, that’s my goal for change this yr.

    • kwalshmac

Thank you! And I agree, I think being present makes all the different in being happy and productive!

  • natalie

I want to be more disciplined!

    • kwalshmac

Good luck with being more disciplined! I need that in my workout routine this year!

  • You are adorable! The personal change I AM making in my life is to care for me… learning how to care for myself has been so hard but I am doing it! šŸ™‚

    • kwalshmac

Thank you girl šŸ™‚ And I hope you can achieve your change…that is something that is also very hard for me, I feel so guilty when I put myself above others.
